Elvis swiming for 26 hour to set inspiration

The Assam water boy Elvis Hazarika continued for his 26 hour long swim as he took water as his weapon to promote the water sports in the state. The swimmer who took the BP Chaliha swimming pool of Nehru Stadium as his challenge ground has started his floating at last night will be continuing it till 10 o clock at night today.

“The challenge is to set an example to the new comers. Today the lack of attention towards water sports is should be taken seriously by the sports authority. Now a days swimming is only taken as a re creation where as the world sports has concentrated a larger scale of the importance unto the water sports. In India swimming is never taken seriously by any authority and that’s why we lack good competitor in the Olympics and other International events. Hereby I am trying to set that swimming can be fun and can be the sports of the country to set a new identity in sports world”, said Elvis before jumping on the pool.

According to Coach Ilians Ali the effort of Elvis is to be taken sincerely by the sports fraternity and there should be a bright atmosphere for it to be created. “Water sports are seen as respectable like other sports in rest part of the world but not in our country. Its merely a recreation. We all hope that Elvis’s swimming will be of great inspiration to the new comers to do good in swimming and others”, said Illias, the coach.

Huge crowd and youngsters is jubilant to watch Elvis in action for such a great time. “I am encouraged to see how a sportsman can change the outlook of all. I and my friends who are already in the coaching for swimming has decided to take it more seriously and to convey the message to others as well”, said Nandita Das, an eight standard school girl and trainee.

The swimmer has been given support by the Board of Sports, Assam, and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare. The 26 hour long swimming of Elvis Hazarika will end sharply at 10 pm tonight.

Must say that is a brave way to put the message across. Seems like the Olympics sucess has finally made the people conscious of the country’s state in various sporting disciplines. India with the number of people it has, can succeed in any discipline. The need is infrastructure. The Government needs to invest heavily in sporting endeavors. Every locality needs to have a swimming-pool with proper trainers, gyms with boxing and coaches. A common state authority should then organize competitions for the same. And yes, most importantly even a district level champ should earn enough to afford a balanced meal and a good living. BUT THEN ...Where would the fraud and corrupt ministers eat money from.

It’s good to see that he’s trying to make thing better for the future generation.

In fact he himself has been an example of underachievement who showed great promise at junior level but never materialized them when time came. This has to do with several factors including lack of proper facilities and sponsorship. Let’s hope he succeeds....but it is very difficult to move the ”mantri”s and the ”babu”s in our system.
